School Programs Health Education Volunteer

During the frog dissections in school, were you the kid who leaned in closer for a better view when the rest of the class was holding their noses and saying “Eww, gross!”?  If so, then you might be the perfect candidate for an exciting new volunteer opportunity with the Museum’s School Programs team.  We are looking for dynamic and energetic volunteers with education and/or health backgrounds to team teach 4th-8th graders about the circulatory and respiratory systems in 90 minute classroom programs held behind the scenes at the Museum.  Volunteers will lead students through several experimental and observational activities that culminate in sheep heart or sheep lung dissections.

Skills & Abilities:  Experience or demonstrated interest in life science/ health education and experience or demonstrated ability in working with 4-8 grade students.

Training:   Formal training sessions, scheduled observations of team taught school programs, and on-the-job training with experienced Museum Educators.

Schedule:
  3-5 hour shift

Minimum Commitment:  One shift every week for 2nd semester of school year (January 2010 – May 2010)

Age Requirement:  Available to individual applicants 18 years or older
